I grew up in the San Fernando Valley when California was clean and open.  My world consisted of playing army in green fields at the end of my block. Max, my kid brother, would trail behind me, as my dog, Nuisance, ran ahead, anxious to reach the little house at the end of the block that was my home. His dinner consisted of a can of dog food. Mine was a wholesome meal, served by a loving mother, on simple China. Nothing inherited from my handsome father or acquired from my mean older brother, prepared me for a life of crime as a teenage runaway, that was to be my future.
The roads of fate lead me to the dangerous streets of San Francisco’s red light Tenderloin district. It was the original gay ghetto prior to the Castro. My experiences there forged a new consciousness. The birth of my daughter, Elena, was a beacon of light that drew me away from the dark TL streets and back to my roots.
After succeeding in a life of normalcy, raising my daughter and being a successful business woman, I was compelled to write this book. An unexpected gift was bestowed upon me and I found the words to pen my story.  Stilettos and Steel memorializes the characters who were my fellow travelers.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story with you. It is my hope that it will give you as much pleasure as it’s given me in the telling.
